Tips for maintaining a hydraulic system

Table of Contents

If you wish to bring efficiency and accuracy to your warehouse or industry, one of the most important things you can do is install the right hydraulic system. It is impossible to transport massive loads without the help of a hydraulic system. These are complex pieces of equipment with quality engineered design, and only trained technicians can install such equipment in the heavy manufacturing industries. Hydraulic systems are known to create motion and bring a power source that is used to generate energy. One of the most extraordinary things to know about hydraulic systems is that they consist of fewer moving parts and run with the help of fluids. Because the hydraulic systems come with fluid power systems, they are able to move heavier loads and provide greater force without compromising on speed.

Besides these benefits, we have to be very cautious regarding the hydraulic systems’ maintenance and upkeep. If we overlook the early signs of wear and tear, we will observe that the hydraulic systems may not function to the best of their efficiency. If you have a detailed preventative program, you will not have to spend a lot of money even if the hydraulic systems come down. If you can maintain the hydraulic systems from time to time, it will have a massive impact on the performance and lifetime of the hydraulic systems. So, here are a few tips for maintaining the hydraulic systems:

Examine the filters:  It is crucial to examine the filter indicators from time to time so that you can depict the level of contamination. The filter indicators will clearly show electrically and visually the levels of dirt. Once the maximum limit and capacity have been reached, you will come to know that it is the right time to replace the filters. This is a crucial maintenance tip because it will display when the replacement of the filters has to take place inside the hydraulic systems.

Check the temperature: It becomes crucial to check the temperatures to look at the oil’s viscosity. If the oil viscosity is outside the system’s range, it will negatively impact its overall functioning. High and low density can harm the design; high oil viscosity can lead to cavitation in the suction lines.

Rod conditions: There might be rods inside the system, which can lead to a lot of wear and tear. The rods are made of iron, prone to rust and corrosion. If the conditions of the rod are getting adverse, it can lead to excessive moisture within the fluids of the hydraulic system. So, to bring adequacy in the lubrication of fluids, the rods must be inspected at regular intervals.

Check the oils: The hydraulic system runs on the fluids, and it is important to check the conditions of the fluids. The liquids or lubricants on which the hydraulic system runs should be free of all dirt and contaminants. The levels of the fluids should also be checked so that all the parts inside the hydraulic system are running in a proper manner. You can check the manufacturer’s guide if you don’t know the optimum levels of fluids to maintain.
