The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the popular SSC JE exam each year to select dynamic and passionate candidates as Junior Engineers (JE) for Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted positions in a variety of engineering areas including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Quantity Surveying & Contracts. The SSC JE examination is only open to applicants with backgrounds in engineering. SSC conducts a two-tier written exam at the all-India level to select the eligible candidates. Roles and Responsibilities of SSC JE 

The job profile of the SSC JE differs according to the department and organisation, where the candidate has been placed as the Junior Engineer, which includes three main technical branches: Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil. Before submitting an application for the exam, the candidate should have a firm understanding of the SSC JE’s role and duties. The following are some of the tasks and responsibilities carried out by a Junior Engineer in SSC:

• Planning and execution: Junior Engineers complete and implement all design-related work for government projects. As an illustration, the Junior Engineers create any call for repair or remodelling. Additionally, they get to implement the planning while using modelling or CAD software.

• Report to seniors: TheJunior Engineer are required to create and submit reports to their superiors. The report includes a wide range of information about the instrumentation and equipment’s performance.
• Equipment upkeep: The organisation’s tools and equipment must be kept in good working order for safety reasons.
• Product testing: Product testing may be necessary to determine how a product will function in various situations. Depending on the field being posted, this could change.
• Liaison with suppliers: Foster relationships with suppliers to push for the most basic supplies.

SSC JE Career Progression

Candidates who are interested in working as a JE in SSC should be aware that promotions are based on a variety of departmental exams and that employees can advance within the organisation by availing of these opportunities. The length of service is also taken into account while determining SSC JE promotion. The SSC Junior Engineers will be promoted to the subsequent designations:

Who is Eligible to Apply?

To apply for the SSC JE exam, candidates must fulfil the eligibility requirements as specified in the official notification. Although the eligibility varies for different positions, in general, the candidates must have completed their graduation in engineering and must be below 30 years of age other than being Indian nationals. Age relaxation from 3 years to 13 years is also given to certain categories of candidates.

SSC JE Salary and Allowances

The Junior Engineer appointed will be reimbursed in accordance with the 7th Pay Commission. The basic pay for the SSC JE would be between Rs. 35400 and Rs. 112400 because the pay band falls within Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission’s pay matrix. The SSC JE Salary will therefore be Rs. 44,000 (Inclusive of all Allowances) per month. Along with this, the candidates are entitled to the allowances like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Medical Allowance, Travel Allowance etc.

The official notification for SSC JE 2022 is expected to be released in August 2022. All interested candidates can apply for the examination and download the SSC Admit Card from the official website of the Staff Selection Commission a week before the date of the exam.
