Know Online New Vehicle Registration Process at RTO

Every vehicle that travels on Indian roadways must be registered with and tracked by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Each state has a separate RTO that provides residents with a variety of services regarding their automobiles. Online Vehicle registration is one of the most significant services provided by RTOs. Process for General Vehicle Registration in India

After purchasing a car, you must register it with your state’s RTO. There are two phases in the registration procedure.

  1. Indian RTO Temporary Registration Number: After purchasing a car, a temporary number is given to you. This number, which the seller or dealer provides, denotes that your car has not yet been permanently registered. The number is only valid for a brief amount of time, and during this time, a permanent registration number must be obtained.
  2. As soon as a new vehicle is registered with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways via a regional RTO, you will receive a permanent registration number. Under no circumstances is it subject to alteration. It will need to be reregistered if you relocate from one state to another.


The procedure for registering your new car with the RTO

You have two options for registering your car: independently or through a dealer. if you decide to register your car on your own. Then, you must adhere to the instructions listed below.

Step 1: Drive your new vehicle to the neighbourhood RTO office.

Step 2: Complete the Application Form 20 and submit it with the necessary paperwork.

Step 3: The RTO superintendent will then examine the documentation.

Step 4: At the cash register, pay the requisite registration fee and tax.

Step 5: The Motor Car Inspector will examine your vehicle.

Step 6: The RTO office enters the vehicle information into the main database.

Step 7. The RTO Superintendent will check the vehicle information submitted into the database 

Step 8: The registration will be approved by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO).

Step 9: The RTO office will start the Smart Card application process. After printing, the Smart Card will be mailed to the applicant at the registered mailing address.

How can you verify the data of your car registration online?

The Central Government’s web platform, VAHAN, which serves as a central database of motor vehicles operating on Indian roads, makes it simple to verify the registration of your car. To verify the RTO information, all you have to do is send an SMS to Vahan. To receive a response, send an SMS in the following format to 77382 99899: VAHAN SPACE VEHICLE NUMBER. Details included in the SMS are:

  • Date of expiration of the fitness certificate Owner name RTO office where the car was registered
  • Serial ownership number
